Mail
Order/Telephone Order Processing
The fastest-growing segment of credit card use today is in
“card-not-present" transactions in which a customer makes
their purchase by mail order or telephone order (MOTO), or by
fax, instead of being physically present at the merchant's location.
Whether the you use a standard credit card terminal, a software-based
solution, or an internet virtual terminal, your business counts on
credit card processing.
If your business accepts credit cards as a MOTO (card-not-present)
merchant, one of your biggest expenses may be the processing fees. If
your merchant acount is not setup properly, you may be paying
larger-than-necessary fees, and be open to higher risk for fraud and
chargebacks. While a MOTO account has a different rate schedule than a
typical retail-based account, it is still much
less expensive than trying to process your orders on an account set up
for retail (card present) transactions. Because you never
take
physical possession of a credit card so that you can swipe it through a
magnetic strip reader, both Visa and Mastercard use different criteria
for evaluating risk and have those different fee structures for
card-not-present transactions.
Ideal merchants who should have card-not-present accounts are:
- Business-to-Business Sales
- Catalog Order
- Service Industries (such as plumber, contractor, etc.)
- Internet merchants who want to offer telephone order backup
But many merchants are still not told about MOTO opportunities and are
sustaining high processing fees that are not necessary. When you
contact AMS, our Business Solutions Consultants are trained to ask the
right questions and evaluate
your business to develop a custom merchant solution to truly meet your
business needs, both current and future.
When MOTO is the right
solution, we can easily help you establish merchant
accounts for your telephone
orders and card-not-present transactions. It takes just
minutes to do the necessary paperwork and within a few days you will be
up and
